Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite appears on certification site hints at imminent launch

Xiaomi is inching towards the launch of the successor to its Mi A1 smartphone. The Mi A2, which will be launched in China as Mi 6X, has already been spotted on the Chinese certification website TENAA.

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a selfie-focused smartphone in India on June 7. The Chinese OEM may be launching the re-branded version of the Redmi S2 which was recently launched in China, as Redmi Y2.

Ahead of the Redmi Y2 launch, another Xiaomi phone has been spotted on certification site, the Mi A2 Lite. The smartphone has been spotted on a Singapore certification site and according to the listing, the smartphone will be initially heading to Singapore. There's no information if the Xiaomi will bring the Mi A2 Lite to India or not. Probably it will.

The Singapore's IMDA certification site doesn't reveal a lot of information about the phone, apart from the model number. The certification site shows the Mi A2 Lite with the model number M1805D1SG. Next to the model number, the listing mentions the name of the phone to be Mi A2 Lite.

A Xiaomi smartphone with the same model number was spotted on TENNA last month. Unlike the Singapore certification site, the TENNA benchmarking site had hinted at Redmi 6 and not Mi A2 Lite. This means, right now there's no confirmation on the name of the upcoming Xiaomi phone, it could either be the Redmi 6 or the Mi A2 Lite.

The TENNA listing also reveals the camera details of the phone. The Mi A2 Lite/ Redmi 6 will come with two cameras on the back, one of which will have a 12-megapixel sensor. No details on the secondary back camera yet. On the front, the listing shows a 5-megapixel sensor. The phone will be backed by a 3900mAh battery.

Both the Singapore and TENNA listing revealed the name model number for the upcoming Xiaomi phone. The latter also revealed some of the design and hardware details about the smartphone. The listing shows the Mi A2 Lite/Redmi 6 will come with iPhone X like notch on the front, while on the back panel it will include a dual camera set up aligned in a vertical direction, unlike the Mi A1. To recollect, the Mi A1 comes with horizontal dual rear cameras.

Following the camera will be the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The sensor may be placed in the middle of the rear panel similar to that of the Mi A1. The benchmark listing also suggests that the smartphone will boast of a metal unibody design with clean antenna bands at both top and bottom.

In terms of specs, the TENNA listing reveals that the Mi A2 Lite/ Redmi 6 will come with a 5.84-inch full-HD+ display and run Android 8.1 Oreo. On the hardware front, the device will be powered by a 2GHz octa-core processor. The device will come in three RAM and storage variants - 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
